Banksy

Artist: Banksy

London street-artist, Banksy, is world famous for his amazing stencils--depicting images of people to rats-- and his messages in which he includes. Whether it is political, controversial, or personal, Banksy puts it all out there leaving nothing aside. All of his pieces lead to endless interpretation. Like many artists, Banksy doesn't do it to be famous, to get money, or to gather a fan base, he does what he does because he is passionate and wants his voice to be heard, along with many others.

"The time of getting fame for your name on its own is over. Artwork that is only about wanting to be famous will never make you famous. Any fame is a by-product of making something that means something. You don't go to a restaurant and order a meal because you want to have a shit"--Banksy

This "fuck what other people think" mentality has boasted Banksy to the top of media all over the world. Yet his true identity has still remained a secret to the general public, and very few photos have been revealed. In fact there really isn't much to be known about him, other than the fact that we have his art to examine for possible clue.

Through an interview, Simon Hattenstone (a lucky journalists) says, "Banksy is Britain's most celebrated graffiti artist, but anonymity is vital to him because graffiti is illegal. The day he goes public is the day the graffiti ends" (Guardian Interview: Banksy). His self-promoted fame is nonetheless a reflection to the future of graffiti and his words are those of opinionated views on the corruption of our world today.

"Some people become cops because they want to make the world a better place. Some people become vandals because they want to make the world a better looking place." "Graffiti is one of the few tools you have if you have almost nothing. And even if you don't come up with a picture to cure world poverty you can make someone smile while they're having a piss." --Banksy
